WRAL Viewers Protest to Save Geese
Posted September 26, 1997
RALEIGH — The goose hunt is cancelled on a North Raleigh golf course.
A few weeks ago, WRAL-TV5 reported that Wildwood Green golf club was having a problem with an overpopulation of geese. Club owners had planned to let marksmen hunt the geese across the fairways and greens.
After the story aired, the club was swamped with phone calls. Owners have since decided to cancel the hunt, and with the help of animal groups they're dealing with the problem.
Animal experts are destroying goose eggs with chemicals to keep numbers down and club owners are using a border collie to keep the birds away.
So far, they say, it's working.
