Volunteers Wire More Schools on Net Day
Posted September 15, 1997
RALEIGH — Volunteers will try to wire 15,000 more North Carolina classrooms during Net Day 97.
Lieutenant Governor Dennis Wicker announced Net Day for October 18th this year. Volunteers wired more than 11,000 classrooms for the Internet last year, saving the state 22-million dollars. Net Day and other programs give North Carolina a high-tech edge over most other states.
Educational testing service did a report a few months ago about the progress states are making towards implementing technology in the classroom. They concluded that North Carolina was among the front runners in eight of ten categories that they studied so we're making good progress but there's a lot of work yet to do.
Not only does the school system get a great deal on the computers.. all of the wiring kits are donated by major corporations.
