Raleigh Repairs 2 Broken Sewer Mains

RALEIGH — As part of the continuing work to removedebris from last September's Hurricane Fran, city workers discovered --and fixed -- two broken sewer mains.

The broken mains were found along Walnut Creek and were reported to theNC Department of Health, Environment and Natural Resources. Water qualityin the creek was not adversely affected, nor were any fish kills reported.

One of the broken mains was north of Renfrow Street. It was apparentlydamaged by a contractor hired by a resident to grade a private parkinglot.

The other main was just east of State Street at I-40, and was brokenby an extremely large tree that fell across the aerial sewer line.
