Raleigh Repairs 2 Broken Sewer Mains
Posted August 30, 1997
RALEIGH — As part of the continuing work to remove debris from last September's Hurricane Fran, city workers discovered -- and fixed -- two broken sewer mains.
The broken mains were found along Walnut Creek and were reported to the NC Department of Health, Environment and Natural Resources. Water quality in the creek was not adversely affected, nor were any fish kills reported.
One of the broken mains was north of Renfrow Street. It was apparently damaged by a contractor hired by a resident to grade a private parking lot.
The other main was just east of State Street at I-40, and was broken by an extremely large tree that fell across the aerial sewer line.
