Chartered Bus Crashes into River Near Petersburg

PETERSBURG, VA. — A chartered bus plunged into a riverin a deadly crash Tuesday morning on Interstate-95 near Petersburg, Va.

There were 35 people aboard the bus when it ran off the highway andfell into the river below. One of those on board was the adopted grandsonof civil rights figure Rosa Parks. He died in the accident.

Adissa Foulke was chaperoning students on the Pathway to Freedom Tour, sponsored in part by the Rosa & Raymond Parks Institute for SelfDevelopment. The bus tour followed the path of the underground railroadused by American slaves before the Civil War.

There were 12 other people injured in the accident. They were treatedat area hospitals.
