Battery Plant Closing in Mebane

MEBANE — More than 150 employees from Mebane will soon be out of work.
The 3C Alliance, a partnership formed by Toshiba Battery Company, VARTA Battery and Duracell Incorporated announced Tuesday that the plant will stop making certain products in its Mebane facility by September and close the plant by the end of the year.
The facility will stop producing cells used in rechargeable batteries for portable computers, camcorders and cell phones.
