Raleigh Girl, 15, Fatally Shot

RALEIGH — Arthesia Necole Jones was counting the lastfew hours before she was due to leave Raleigh for a trip to Boston to helpwith her sister's new baby. Instead, the 15-year-old was shot to deathearly Saturday in a southeast Raleigh apartment. A search is on for asuspect.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding William CorneliusBurford, 23, of no known address. A warrant has been issued on the chargeof murder. Burford, also known as "Cisco" or "Big Burt," is 6 feet 2inches tall. An arrest warrant had been issued earlier for Burford, inconnection with a shooting on Quarry Street Tuesday, in which a man wasshot in the arm.

When Jones was shot, several people were thought to be in theapartment. When police arrived, she was found alone. The apartment isrented in the name of Clarence "C" Radcliffe, 39.

Jones lived with her parents at 1404 Stovall Drive, and was visitingthe apartment at 517 S. East Street.

Friends and neighbors said she had been looking forwardenthusiastically to her visit to Boston. She was to leave Raleigh Sunday.

A reward will be paid for information leading to the arrest andconviction of Jones' murderer. Anyone with information is asked to callRaleigh police at890-3555 or CrimeStoppers at 834-4357.
