Steel Mill an Easy Sell in Selma

Posted Updated

SELMA — Steel mills might conjure up images of smoke and gray skies. But aJohnston County town says a steel mill there would make its daysbrighter.

A Texas company is considering building a small steel mill in the townof Selma. The people who talked with WRAL say "no problem." They saysteel brings good paying jobs, and that more industry would liven up thetown.

In one resident's opinion, Selma is a ghost town. A new mill would putmore people to work and make the town what it used to be.

The company is still considering other sites. Once a decision is made, the east coast mill should be in operation by 1999.
