Private Plane Won't Send UNC Fees Sky High

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL — It will cost about $100,000 a year, but UNC leaders say it's worthit. They're leasing a private plane for the medical school and thesystem's incoming president.

The plane will be used primarily to whisk medical experts all over thestate to help those in need. And yes, it will also be used to shuttle thepresident to various UNC campuses.

Although it sounds a bit excessive, it's not new to UNC. The use of AHACplanes is something UNC has been doing for many years. It's a wellunderstood practice, and something that's seen as a real asset tothe state.

The cost of the plane will in no way impact student wallets.
