Nemechek Wins, Dedicates Victory to His Brother

Posted May 24, 1997

— Mark Martin tries to make history today at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Martin goes for Busch Grand National win number 32. The record of 31 was originally set by Jack Ingram.

Martin won't see Victory Lane today, and neither will these guys: Mike Wallace gets together with Joe Bessey; Wallace in the seven goes high; Bessey in the six comes down to the bottom of the track, and Bessey gets smacked again; Kyle Petty hits Bessey while the leaders are racing back to the start-finish line. All drivers are okay.

The entire race belongs to Joe Nemechek. It's an emotional day for the Nemechek family. John Nemechek was killed in a crash at Homestead. Joe Nemechek dedicates this race to his brother's memory, winning the CarQuest 300.

Kevin LePage is second. Martin third. Jimmy Spencer fourth. Phil Parsons takes fifth.
