MORRISVILLE — A Morrisville police officer is dead after a two car crash this afternoon.
Canine officer Earl Godwin was driving with his dog to answer a domestic dispute call. Godwin was driving a green Range Rover, his police vehicle, complete with lights and sirens, but witnesses say the lights and sirens were not on when the vehicle plowed into Patricia Ettson's Honda.
Ettson walked away from the crash.
One witness said Godwin was not wearing a seatbelt.
"When I looked, I saw [the vehicle] rolling over," the witness said. "That's when I took off running because I knew it was pretty bad."
Godwin's police dog ran back to the police station unhurt. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating.
