Made for Mom

In the days leading up to Mother's Day, day care centers and elementaryschools become hotbeds of activities aimed at creating those "I Made ItMyself" gifts that mothers treasure.

Raleigh's Brooks Elementary School is no exception. The kindergartenclasses were busy with construction paper and crayons, fashioning specialmessages.

Meanwhile, other children were wrestling with bags of pottingsoil and oodles of small clay pots. The pots' exteriors weredecorated, and then the children potted up impatiens plants for thatspecial lady in their lives.

"There is just a relationship at this age with moms....Any time (thechildren) do anything for those adults, then it's very special to them,"said kindergarten teacher Judy Curtis.

Every Spring the kindergarten class works on a plant unit to learn justwhat it takes to make things grow, and it fits perfectly into the kids'interest in having something they created to give to Mom.
