Rocky Mount Boy, 4, Fatally Wounds Self with...

ROCKY MOUNT — A 4-year-old Rocky Mount boy found a gunand shot himself to death while playing with it in his front yard.

Ajai Wiggins was playing in the yard with his 2-year-old brother whenthe .380 automatic pistol went off, shooting Ajai in the head. At least one of the child's parents were inside the house at the time of theshooting. The younger child was not injured.

The shooting occurred at about 3 p.m. Monday at 800 Branch Street onthe Edgecombe County side of Rocky Mount. Police say they think the childfound the gun in an ice bin on the side of the house. They say they don'tbelieve the parents owned or had any knowledge of the gun.

Police say they are theorizing that someone attempting to hide the gunthrew it in the ice bin at the Wiggins home.
