Fayetteville Hit-and-Run Remains Unsolved

FAYETTEVILLE — Police in Fayetteville are looking for asuspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Sunday night. Theysay 45-year-old Daniel Lewis was walking in a residential area south ofFayetteville when he was struck by a passing car.

Lewis died instantly. The suspect sped away before anyone got a goodlook at the car or driver. Investigators say they don't have many leads inthe case.

Another pedestrian died in a separate hit-and-run in Goldsboro. Policethere say 43-year-old Douglas Edward Artis was walking in front of WayneMemorial Hospital Sunday night when a car driven by Jesse Fields struckhim.

Artis died instantly. Police are still investigating and have not yetfiled any charges.
