Hit-and-Run-Seriously Injures Durham Man

DURHAM — A Durham man is fighting for his life at alocal hospital after he sustained severe head injuries in a hit-and-runaccident Friday night.

Police say James T. Thompson was standing on the corner of Elmo Streetand North Hyde Park Avenue when a car jumped the curb, striking Thompson.

The Chevette's driver fled. The passenger jumped out, removed thelicense plate and registration number, and then jumped into a Honda Accordand left the scene.

Thompson, thought to be between 52 and 54 years old, is in criticalcondition with what police described as a "life-threatening head injury."
