DURHAM — A Durham man is fighting for his life at a local hospital after he sustained severe head injuries in a hit-and-run accident Friday night.
Police say James T. Thompson was standing on the corner of Elmo Street and North Hyde Park Avenue when a car jumped the curb, striking Thompson.
The Chevette's driver fled. The passenger jumped out, removed the license plate and registration number, and then jumped into a Honda Accord and left the scene.
Thompson, thought to be between 52 and 54 years old, is in critical condition with what police described as a "life-threatening head injury."
Durham police ask anyone with information to call 919-560-4314.
