In the past week, 93 fires have blackened 433 acres across the state.Because of that, forestry experts went to Schenck Memorial Forest inRaleigh to demonstrate how to burn debris safely.
Fire Training Officer Bill Miller said the danger of brush fires willbe around for many years.
The year's fire danger seasons typically run from February throughApril, and again October through December.
If open burning is allowed in your area, experts advise that the areaaround the debris pile needs to be cleared of burnable trash. Then, if theflames spread, they will be hemmed in by the firebreak.
The pile should be constructed a safe distance from any structures.the fire should not be left unattended. And a garden hose or other sourceof water should be kept nearby.
