Hockey Arena Decision Stalled Again
Posted April 1, 1997
RALEIGH — Yet another meeting was held Monday for discussion on the proposed entertainment and sports arena in Raleigh. City council members met with the intention of coming to a final decision on what to build and how to finance it.
Again, no final decision has been reached.
Councilman Kieran Shanahan offered a new proposal that he says would save taxpayers $34 million in interest payments. Council member Julie Graw says this latest move could kill the proposal to build an arena altogether.
The council decided to review the new proposal and consider the issue again in two weeks.
