Car, Train Collide in Garner

GARNER — A man was injured whenhis car was struck byan Amtrak passenger train Wednesday night.

James Earl Petteway, 25, of Garner, was trying to cross trackswithin the city limits when the collision occurred about 11 p.m.,said Lt. Chris Hagwood of the Garner Police Department.

Petteway was taken to the emergency room at Wake Medical Centerwith lacerations and a broken nose after the collision. He was instable condition early Thursday, the hospital said.

The train did not derail and no one aboard was injured, Hagwoodsaid. The intersection doesn't have a crossing gate but has lightsand a bell, he said.

The intersection was cleared off by midnight, Hagwood said.

The collision was the second train-car crash in Garner is thepast two days, police said. Both accidents involved the same train and thesame engineer.
