FAYETTEVILLE — A tip from the public has led police to arrest a second suspect in the so-called "butcher knife" holdups.
Police now have arrested 18-year-old Russell Howard and 16-year-old Andrew Mullen in connection with several armed robberies in Fayetteville and Spring Lake.
The perpetrators in the convenience store holdups brandished a butcher knife to threaten store clerks.
Howard has been charged in five hold-ups. As many as a dozen robberies in Cumberland County may be linked.
Investigators say more arrests are expected.
