UNDATED — The holidays are supposed to be a time ofgood will and generosity, but more than 1,000 employees in North Carolinawill find themselves without jobs before the beginning of the new year.
Companies such as Ligget, Singer Furniture, Seimen's Energy and theKaiser Foundation Health Plan are laying off some of their workers.
Labor officials say it's not unusual for companies to trip their workforces as Christmas approaches because, for many, it's the end of thefiscal year when new budget plans are created.
