Racial Charges Hurled at Fayetteville Police Department

FAYETTEVILLE — The NAACP is taking aim at theFayetteville Police Department, saying it has a racially hostile workenvironment.

Monday night, the Association took its accusations to city council,calling for an investigation into charges of racism. Local NAACP leadershad first met privately with the city manager and police chief, but werenot satisfied with the results of those meetings.

The city manager says he is not against an investigation if the councilfinds there is a need for one. Council members expressedconcerns about the allegations, they did not take any formal action.
