Middle School Boy Killed in Accident

FAYETTEVILLE — A 14-year-old Cumberland County boy was killed Wednesday when he was thrown from the truck he was riding in.
Authorities say the teens were speeding on State Road 1702 when they rounded a curve and lost control of the vehicle. The 1978 Ford pickup, which was being driven by a 15-year-old boy who was able to walk away from the wreck, flipped over five times before coming to rest in a field. The driver was not at the scene when state troopers arrived, but was later taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police don't have all the details on the accident yet, but hope to talk to the driver Wednesday night to obtain more information.
Trooper Mike Mills says there are many unanswered questions, such as why two middle-school students were on the roads at 1 p.m. and why a 15-year-old was driving unsupervised.
Authorities have identified the victim as Justin Flynn, a student at Pine Forest Middle School.
