Body in Car Trunk is Fayetteville Mystery

FAYETTEVILLE — Authorities have identified the body found in the trunk of a car Wednesday as that of 47-year-oldDealon Simmons. The car's presence behind McDonald Lumber Company was reported to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office after people noticed astrong odor in its vicinity.

Autopsy results came in Thursday afternoon proving the identity ofSimmons. Simmons, according to police, had a fairly extensive criminalrecord. Since 1982, his police record includes at least 10 differentserious drug charges.

The vehicle is registered to Janeeta Holliday who was, atfirst, reported to be engaged to the victim. Thursday, she toldWRAL TV5'sTerri Grucathat she"hardly knows the man" whom she says she last saw September 26.

Cumberland County Sheriff Moose Butler says investigatorscouldn't immediately tell how the man died. No weapons were foundat the scene.

W.E. Harris says many people noticed the car, but never suspected whatwould be found in it.

While Harris says someone reported the car's location Monday, SheriffButler says his department has no record of such a report, but they arelooking into it.
