In order to replenish supplies of non-perishable food and othersupplies, WRAL-TV5 has recalled troops of "5's Army of Volunteers," whichwas started to help victims of Hurricane Andrew, to helprestock shelves at the Food Bank's the Beryl Road location.
The 450 agencies that the Food Bank serves are spread throughout 34counties. All 34 of those counties have been declared disaster areas,meaning that when people lost power, they lost the contents of theirrefrigerators and freezers.
Needed items include canned goods, ready-to-eat meals; pop-top cans ofthings such as puddings, tuna and meat; beans, cereal, bread, baby foodand formula, paper products and personal hygiene items. The Food Bank alsois seeking cash donations.
Donations can be dropped off at 4701 Beryl Road, near the statefairgrounds, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this Saturday 9 a.m.to 4 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Barrels have been placed outside thebuilding for your convenience.
