6 Men Charged with Shooting Man in the Face

Durham Police were dispatched to Crossroads Apartments at 219 S. Alston Ave. at 5:31 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the face inside a vehicle.

DURHAM, N.C. — Six men were arrested and charged with shooting a man in the face in Durham early Saturday.

Durham Police were dispatched to Crossroads Apartments at 219 S. Alston Ave. at 5:31 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the face inside a vehicle.

Police identified the shooting victim as Eduardo Dario Mendez Hernandez.

Hernandez, 37, was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was in critical condition Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officers broadcast a description of a suspect vehicle. A short time later, officers stopped a vehicle matching the description in the 1100 block of North Buchanan Boulevard.

The following men were charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury:

  • Jorge Castro-Cervantes, 35, of Liberty Street
  • Ramon Ortiz-Palomarez, 29, of North Driver Street
  • Jorge Galdamez-Posadas, 18, of Clayton Road
  • Carlos Ramirez, 22, of Rochelle Street
  • Denis Omar Sandoval, 18, of Holder Road
  • Jose Guillen-Rodriquez, 17, of North Buchanan Boulevard

Investigators said they also recovered a gun. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
