At about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, a deputy attempted to stop a man driving a vehicle on Old Stage Road, south of Raleigh, when a pursuit ensued. The man later wrecked the vehicle on Maxwell Drive near U.S. Highway 401 South.
A sheriff's office spokeswoman said the man, identified as Charles Candler Dorsey, 44, was shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the arrest. Information about what led to the shooting was not immediately available.
The four deputies -- Deputy R.D. Davis, Deputy R. L. Carroll, Deputy C. J. Bryant and Deputy G.A. Barnes -- were placed on administrative duty while the investigation continues.
Dorsey, who has addresses listed for him in Angier and Garner, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault on a government official, one count of communicating threats, one count of felony speeding to elude and failure to appear on various driving offenses. He was also charged with misdemeanor stalking and communicating threats in Harnett County.
A $131,000 secured bond was set for him.
