ATLANTA, Ga. — Verizon has made an investment in
Super Computer International (SCI)
, an Atlanta-based company focused on providing services for online gaming.
Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
SCI develops and provides game-server hosting solutions, gaming portals and other services related to game play.
The companies said they would work together to deploy a new game browsing and messaging platform called PlayLinc. PlayLinc is to include messaging tools such as instant messaging and voice over Internet Protocol capability, team management, buddy tracking, player invitations and more.
Verizon launched its own online gaming network last September. Verizon and SCI have worked together in development of that network. PlayLinc will be tested and deployed over the Verizon Game Network later this spring.
