Former Sampson Band Leader Resigns Position, Surrenders To Authorities

Posted Updated

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. — A former Samspon County high school bandleader is now out on bond after turning himself in to authorities.

Joshua Willis resigned from Midway High School Monday after being suspended without pay on April 11. He is charged with one count each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle and impaired supervision or instruction.

The charges stem from a March 17 incident during which authorities say he supplied a minor with alcohol and let the unlicensed minor drive his car while Willis was himself under the influence of alcohol.

Willis began teaching at Midway in 2003. He had previously taught at Reid Ross Classical School in Fayetteville. He was released on a $4,500 bond.
