Gaines Steer has spent the last ten years creating The Last Unicorn. His 5-acre estate has become a wrought-iron wonderland.
"We get fantasyland, fantastic, all kinds of adjectives that go with the unicorn. Today we're making a headboard, a table and a gate," says Steer.
This is not your typical ironworks shop and this is not your typical showroom. This is The Last Unicorn.
"We were looking for something unique, magical, mystical and it worked," said Steer.
Steer steers away from the ordinary. He travels the country, collecting old wrought-iron gates and fences, and turns them into one-of a-kind masterpieces including tables, arches and fountains.
"If they want one of those classic gothic fountains, this is not the right place. I don't have classic gothic things," said Steer.
What he does have is imagination. And he is hoping you will use yours, and want to bring one of these pieces home.
The prices range from a couple of dollars to several thousand dollars. If there is a question, just look at the tag. Steer is willing to put a price on just about everything.
The Last Unicorn is still a work in progress. Gaines Steer hopes it always will be.
The Last Unicorn is open to the public every Saturday and during the week by appointment.
