SwampDogs Hit Home Run With Fayetteville Fans

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, NC — The

Fayetteville SwampDogs

are hitting a home run with fans.

Right now, the team ranks second in the Coastal Plain league.

More than halfway through the season, the Swamp Dogs average 1,600 fans per game, four times as many fans as were at last year's Cape Fear Crocs games.

But the loss of the Fayetteville Force hockey team has some sports fans hesitant about buying season tickets for next year.

"We had a gentleman come up the other day who wanted to buy season tickets and said, 'I want to do it, but what kind of guarantee do you have that you'll be around next year?'" says SwampDogs' general manager Curt VanDerzee.

Fayetteville has been chosen to host the 2002 Coastal Plain League All Star Game. The game date will be announced early next year.
