YMCA Brings Swimming Lessons To Neighborhood Pools

Posted Updated

CARY — Learning how to swim without any help can be difficult, but many people who cannot afford to take lessons at the YMCA can now learn to swim at their local pool, because the instructors are coming to them.

Falling into the pool is no longer a scary experience for some of the children who live at the Cardinal Woods apartment complex. That is because YMCA instructors have spent the past week coming to their neighborhood pool to teach them how to swim.

Diving for pennies and posing for underwater pictures are a few ways instructors are teaching kids about things like breath control. Water safety is also a big part of the program. Kids are also taught not to swim unless an adult is present, and to call 911 in case of an emergency.

The swim instructors spent five days at the Cardinal Woods pool. Now, they are looking for other apartment managers to sign up. For more information, you can call 469-9592. YMCA representatives will also visit local schools to teach general water safety.
