DURHAM, N.C. — The fate of a man accused in a fatal drunken-driving crash is in the hands of a Durham County jury.
The prosecution rested its case Wednesday against Kenneth Maready who, investigators said, was drunk when his vehicle hit a truck driven by 61-year-old Kay Stokes last year. Stokes died in the accident.
Maredy is charged with second-degree murder. He has nine previous convictions for driving while impaired.
The jury deliberated for an hour before going home for the day.
