Raleigh Leaders Approve Impact Fee Increase

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh City Council recently approved a 72-percent hike in impact fees.

Builders pay those fees to cover road construction and other improvements associated with growth. It is the first major hike since 1988.

Mayor Charles Meeker said he wished that the new fee would be about twice what the city council approved.

Opponents say the increase will make it harder for families to buy homes because the cost will be passed along.
