Zebulon Firefighter Injured Battling Blaze

Posted Updated

ZEBULON — A Zebulon firefighter was injured while fighting a house fire Wednesday morning.

He was hit in the face with a piece of hose, but is expected to be fine.

What is now a smoking pit used to be a 3,100 square foot house that was under construction in the Wakefield Subdivision off Wakefield Farm Road.

Firefighters say the house had a roof and shingles, and builders were about to start putting in insulation.

Chief Sidney Perry says when firefighters first arrived around 1:30 a.m., it was obvious they were fighting a losing battle. The home was destroyed.

"The house was totally involved," he says. "It actuallyhad already burnt up and had fallen down. It was just a big ball of fire when we got here, so the fire had been burning for some time."

The fire chief says he does not believe there was any electricity in the home, except for drop cords.
