Gen. Hugh Shelton Honored At Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG — One of North Carolina's most recognized soldiers came home to say goodbye.

After 38 years in the Army, General Hugh Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, retires in November.Monday, he came back to Fort Bragg for a farewell ceremony.

Gen. Shelton was honored at the main post flag post Monday afternoon for his long association with Fort Bragg.

"So much of our personal history is tied to this post, the 18th AirborneCorp, to Special Forces and the 82nd Airborne Division . I'm verty honored as well as very humbled by this great ceremony," he told the crowd.

A Tarboro native, Shelton was the former commander of the

18th Airborne Corps

The Secretary of Defense will also host a farewell ceremony for Shelton in October.
