Zebulon Officials Close Day Camp For Kids

Posted Updated

ZEBULON — A kid's camp in Zebulon has to look for another home this morning.

On Thursday night, "Pieces of a Dream" day camp was not permitted to re-open. The decision came even after campers' parents and the camp's directors tried to persuade a zoning panel that the camp was worth keeping open, but the appeals board did not change its decision.

"My heart dropped. We have fought this thing as hard as we could for the kids because, by no means, would we put any children in danger," says camp co-director Renee Johnson.

Zebulon shut the camp down on Monday. The town said the camp was not safe because it does not have a fenced-in yard. The town also said camps are not allowed in residential neighborhoods.
