Raleigh Jaycees Give Bike Helmets To Young Riders

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Bike riding is a popular summer activity, especially for children. Many in a Raleigh housing community were treated to bike helmets Saturday.

Members of the Raleigh Jaycees also brought along tools to work on some of the bikes that needed a little maintenance. Children of all ages are encouraged to wear a helmet for their safety. Plus, helmets will keep them out of trouble with the law.

"There's a new law coming into affect that's going to be enforceable July 1, where kids can be ticketed if they don't have the helmets," says Andy Stough of the Jaycees.

The Jaycees adopted the Heritage Park Neighborhood six years ago. Saturday's Bike Safety program was one of a number of projects the Jaycees conduct there each year.
