Flooding Reported In Edgecombe, Halifax Counties

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for northeastern Edgecombe County and southeastern Halifax County until 2 p.m.

At 10 a.m., local law enforcement officials continue to report flooding across southeastern Halifax County near Scotland Neck and Enfield. Creeks and streams across northeastern Edgecombe County continue to rise and are now flooding near speed.

A flood warning has also been issued for the Tar River at Tarboro.

Heavy rains in the area during the past 24 hours have diminished, and the current flooding is a result of runoff.

Scattered showers are expected through early this afternoon. More widespread showers and thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and evening.

Motorists are advised not to drive into areas where the water covers the road. Vehicles caught in rising water should be abandoned, and the passengers should move to higher ground.

Children should be kept from flood waters as they may be of unknown depth and unusual currents will make for dangerous conditions.
