Orange County Nature Preserve Needs Volunteers To Help Care For Animals

Posted Updated

ORANGE COUNTY — Many veterinarians, in addition to treating house pets, often find injured wild animals left on their doorstep. In Orange County, the Animal Protection Society has a place devoted to that cause.

The Felicite Latane Animal Sanctuary needs help to take care of the wildlife at the nature preserve. Veterinarian Bobby Schopler says the work does not happen without volunteers answering every hungry call or without donations keeping meal worms and crickets in great supply.

"With all the animals, our whole intent is to get them in, take care of them, meet their needs and get them back out into the wild," he says.

Wildlife manager Melanie Piazza makes sure the animals are ready for a second chance in the wild. She says freedom is the best love the staff and volunteers can offer.

"It's the best feeling to know that you helped get them back out there," she says.

If you would like to volunteer to work at the animal sanctuary in Orange County or offer financial support, you can call them at919-304-2337.
