FAYETTEVILLE — Time may be running out for private duty nurses in North Carolina.
In an effort to save money, state legislatorsare considering cutting the Medicaid Private Duty Nursing Program.
The General Assembly wants to cut the service and put Medicaid patients in nursing homes to save money. Some healthcare workers say patients would suffer as a result.
There are more than 200 Medicaid patients in the state who have private duty nurses. One in four of them are children.
A rally is planned in Raleigh on May 23 to protest the possible elimination of the program.
