Pit Bull Attacks Pet Pony

Around 6 p.m. Monday, John Joyner went outside to give his22-year-old pet pony, Brandy, an evening snack when he discovered that shehad been attacked and was barely alive.

Authorities suspect Bishop, a two-year-old pit bull, escaped from itsyard, wandered to Brandy's stable and mauled her to death.

"If I hadn't put her down, she would havedied by the time the night was over," Joyner says.

"It's a nasty situation where a lot of blood wasinvolved and a lot of violence. That's why we call the dog vicious," saysWilliam Hill, Nash County health director.

Joyner says he wants the dog's owners topay, but not with just money.

This is not the first time the dog has wanderedaway, and he wants the dog put to sleep.

"I know if they keep that dog living he'sgoing to eventually get out and hurt somebodyelse," he says.

Bishop is currently under quarantine at the animal control center inNashville inNash County. Officials are still deciding the fate of the dog at thistime.

Joyner says if the dog stays alive, he willtake the owners to court.
