Rocky Mount Firefighter Returns To Active Duty After Bout With Cancer

ROCKY MOUNT — A Rocky Mount firefighter is back on the job full-time after his bout withcancer.

Travis Mayo is again handling hose alongsidehis buddies. He lost his hair during chemotherapy, sofellow firefighters shaved their heads.

Everybody's hair is finally coming back, and Mayo says he isglad to be working full shifts.

"I had to watch the trucks leave the stationand go to the calls. I wasn't part of that, andthat's what's near and dear to my heart -- being able to get out and fightfires and make adifference," he says.

Mayo says his battle with cancer is going well, and it is time to let hishair grow.
