Lawsuit Dismissed Against Cumberland Sheriff

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A U.S. District Court judge dismissed a retaliation lawsuit against Cumberland County Sheriff Moose Butler.

The judge said the three former employees had failed to prove their case.

For now, the ruling ends the case filed back in 2002, by former sheriff's attorney Deborah Koenig and former deputies Deborah Crain and Dawn Hamerla.

The former employees said they were subjected to retaliation after raising sexual harassment claims and exercising free speech about those claims in late 2000 and early 2001.
