RALEIGH — It looks a lot like Christmas again in the skies of Raleigh. Our holiday tradition continued Friday as we flipped the switch for the annual WRAL-TV tower lighting.
The Mac Williams Middle School Chorus from Fayettevilleprovided beautiful musicleading up to the 6 p.m. ceremony. The chorus had been preparing for the event for months.
The 300-foot tower is wrapped with 2,890 colored lights. Three 5-foot-tall stars adorn the top of the tower.
In May 2000, WRAL-TV's tower won a community appearance award from the Citizen's Advisory Council of Raleigh.
The idea of putting lights on the tower came decades ago from A.J. Fletcher, the founder ofCapitol Broadcasting Company.
