RDU INTERNATIONAL — Raleigh-Durham Internationalhas a new fleet of fire trucks.

Casper No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 represent a $1.5 million investment that should serve well into the new century.

"These are the bread and butter. These will make the rescue path for the folks coming off the aircraft so they'll be safe when they're on the ground," says RDU firefighter Sidney Bragg.

The trucks carry 6,000 gallons of water, more than 900 gallons of foam and 1,500 pounds of dry chemicals. The trucks also have a flare camera, a heat sensor that will pick up hot spots in zero visibility. The trucks can travel 60 to 70 miles an hour.

If they are ever needed, the Casper trucks and the airport's 19 firemen are ready day and night, year round. The new equipment replaces trucks bought in the 1970s.
