Brown Retires as Raleigh Police Chief

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Raleigh's police chief will probably be sleeping in Friday.

Thursday was Mitch Brown's last day on the job. After 28 years on the force, Brown is retiring after six years as the chief.

Major J.R. Knox will replace Brown until a permanent replacement is hired.

Under Brown's leadership, the city and police force grew as the crime rate fell.
