RALEIGH — Movie theaters and malls around the Triangle were packed all day Saturday with people who wanted to get out of the house. Retailers say cabin fever is good for their bottom lines.

Store managers are thanking Mother Nature for another busy day of holiday shopping. Many stores were crammed with customers Friday for after-Thanksgiving sales. Triangle residents flocked to the malls again Saturday to escape the wet weather.

"Rain, cold, snow. We do better. A lot of stores don't do as much business, but whenever that happens, we're really busy," says retailer Jim Bennett.

Lynelle Munson and her daughters took care of their Christmas shopping Friday. Saturday, they were shopping for themselves.

"We got tired of watching movies," Munson says. "We decided to see what good deals we could find and what fun things we could have."

One store manager says sales are up almost 50 percent over this time last year. Area merchants hope the boom does not bust any time soon.
