RDU International Cracks Down On Airport Speeders

Posted Updated

RDU INTERNATIONAL — Before you check your bags atRDU International, you might want to check your speedometer.

Since the opening of the new parking garage, airport police officers have been cracking down on speeders. They have stopped hundreds of drivers who are not abiding by the 20 mph speed limit around the terminals.

Officers say the increase in pedestrian traffic and complaints about speeders prompted the crackdown.

"Even at nighttime, passengers will stand beside the post, and you won't see them until they actually step out into the crosswalk," says Officer Stewart Edwards.

The average speeding ticket costs about $115. Officers say pedestrians who avoid the painted crosswalks also add to the safety problems at the airport.
