DURHAM — Families who lost their loved ones to violence stopped to remember them in a vigil in Durham Monday night.
The local chapter of Parents of Murdered Children gathered at the county jail for the National Day of Remembrance. Through prayer and fellowship, they grieved together.
For people like Diane Peaks whose son was murdered in 1997, sharing her pain helps her deal with the loss.
"It helped me to realize that I wasn't crazy, and it helped me to realize that what I was going through was normal," Peaks says.
Peaks lit a candle in memory of her son, and all the other victims whose lives were cut short by violent crime.
