N.C. Museum of Art Attracts Crowds With Outdoor Films

The North Carolina Museum of Art is more than just art pictures. It is also about motion pictures. For the last 12 years, films have been projected on the side of the museum every Friday and Saturday night during the summer.

"We try to appeal to a broad range of interests," says George Holt, museum spokesman. "We try to have some number of family films and general interest films."

The films are attracting a lot of interest as anywhere from 300 to 1,500 people watch the films. Lynn Vitello always comes to the films with a group of her friends. She says you cannot beat the atmosphere.

"It's good to be outside. You can bring in all of your own food and beverages," Vitello says.

Adults can get in for $4 while kids can get in for free. Many fans say it is a good deal.

"It's hard to find cheap things to do with the family so it is definitely a fun way to spend the evening without spending too much money," says moviegoer Jory Weintraub.

The movies are shown from mid-May through September. The museum plans to have a celebration August 12 to mark the end of theFestival Rodin exhibit. They are planning to have a laser show with fireworks.
