It all began about 4 a.m. when police say two suspects shot William Teasley, 31, at his home on Enterprise Street. Detectives believe robbery was the motive.
Teasley was transported to Duke Medical Center where he later died.
The suspects, Omar Lionel Reed, 21, and Terry Dwayne Green, 17, both of Durham, are in custody and have been charged with murder, kidnapping, burglary, attempted robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle. Green also faces an additional charge of felony assault.
They are being held in the Durham County Jail.
At 8 a.m., the body of Marshall Rivers, 72, was discovered in a wooded area along Highway 55. Police say Rivers died of a gunshot wound.
Police say a black male, age 15 to 18, was seen leaving the area. He was described as being approximately 5'5", wearing a black T-shirt, gray pants and a dark colored rag on his head.
At 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Chatham Place, just off the Durham Freeway, detectives say Hezekiah Baxter, III, 26, was shot and killed.
A red vehicle was seen leaving the area.
The three murders were reported within ten hours. That brings the total number of murders so far this year in Durham to 13 -- the same number committed all of last year in the city.
Detectives do not believe the murders are connected.
